Mission
The performance of choral works of cultural and educational value for recreational, cultural, and educational purposes performed at the highest level by professional musicians.
Background
Vocal Arts Nashville was formed to provide the Nashville community professional choral music of the highest quality. Established in 2017, Vocal Arts Nashville is the region's first fully professional chamber choir. Artistic Director Matthew Phelps formed a group of eight singers to perform some test concerts, and after success in those ventures decided to launch the group and their first season beginning in October of 2017. The first season consisted of two concert featuring the music of Bach, along with new music, and music of Brahms.
After an overwhelmingly successful first season, the ensemble expanded to twelve singers in 2018 and continues to perform regularly, often in collaboration with other local musicians.
Impact
Since its founding, Vocal Arts Nashville performances are free to the public. In the first three seasons, Vocal Arts Nashville partnered with Nashville School for the Arts, Music City Baroque, the Vanderbilt Chorale, as well as other local artists. Our goals for next year are to pursue more collaborations as well as recording projects.
Needs
Our most pressing needs include financial resources, public relations to continue building relationships in the community along with audience base, venues where we can accept revenue at minimal cost, programming ideas that include multiple arts organizations to build connections in the community, and additional working board members to increase our effectiveness as an organization.
