Mission

To provide a path to renewed health for those seeking recovery from all forms of eating disorders through professional resource referrals, educational training and a supportive community.

Background

Founded in 2002, Renewed (formerly known as the Eating Disorders Coalition of Tennessee) is the Southeast's first statewide nonprofit to advance eating disorder education, prevention and treatment. Co-founders Ovidio Bermudez, MD, and Reba Sloan, MPH, LRD, FAED joined with concerned community members and treatment professionals to form the organization. Today, the organization has become a critical resource for one-on-one treatment referrals and a supportive community for all those effected directly or indirectly. Renewed also offers clinician training for those on the front-lines of treating eating disorders. Always serving with compassion and respect, we continue to grow as a resource for those facing any type of eating disorder challenge and body image concerns. We are dedicated to inspire courage for today, trust in recovery and hope for a renewed tomorrow. All services are offered free of charge.

Impact

We are currently in the process of a 6-year strategic plan - Vision 2022 (with Thrive fundraising campaign) that seeks to accomplish the following goals: Increase awareness of Renewed as the 'go-to' organization for eating disorder support and treatment resources. Educate community personnel and clinicians on the early recognition and timely intervention of eating disorders. Expand Renewed's support programs to new clients and geographic locations. Increase treatment accessibility for individuals struggling with eating disorders. Grow infrastructure and staff to adequately meet the needs of the above goals. Establish sustainable operations through a comprehensive fundraising plan, with new revenue streams.

Needs

In the 2022-23 fiscal year, we are seeking funding to fulfill the following needs:
-Expansion of clinical referral network - Grow our clinical referral network through Renewed-hosted events, an increased presence at relevant conferences and targeted small group meetings. ($5K)
-New staff position - Hire a full-time Development Director to provide much needed fundraising assistance with grant writing and special events. ($40K)
-Lunch & learn events - Organize a series of lunch and learn events to provide training and awareness to target audiences including school guidance counselors, teachers, athletic coaches and church leaders. ($8K)
-Resource kits - Create resource kits to educate and address the needs of target audiences on the topics of eating disorders, disordered eating and body image - including signs, symptoms and available resources. ($25K)
-Program expansion - To meet the increased need in underserved areas, offer CO-ED groups on various college campuses; expand therapeutic programs (PaintED, BalancED) in adjacent counties; and offer support groups to target audiences to increase impact and decrease isolation and suffering in silence. ($15K)
