Mission
Cumberland County Imagination Library's mission is to improve the educational opportunities for the children of Cumberland County, TN by mailing high quality, age appropriate books on a monthly basis to their homes.
Background
The Imagination Library (IL) program mails age-appropriate, high-quality books each month to enrolled children, birth to age five, at no cost to families. Dolly Parton created the IL program in 1996 as a gift to the children in her hometown of Sevierville, Tenn. The program is available to all age-eligible Tennessee children through a unique public-private partnership with the Governor's Early Literacy Foundation, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library and local county affiliate programs in each of Tennessee's 95 counties.
Impact
Inclusion of all children, providing common ground at the start of kindergarten;
Promotion of activities that have a healing effect on families regardless of their economic status;
Engagement of the entire community in promoting literacy, enrollment, and funding;
Allowance of each community's autonomy for growth and sustainability, while benefiting from statewide and local partnerships.
