Mission
Our mission is to show Christ-like compassion to the needs of those incarcerated and help them rebuild their lives outside prison. We desire to reach out to women caught in addictions and troubles, and help them realize and reach their God-given potential.
Background
LTC has been DBA Leaving The Cocoon under GNF since 2007. In 2019, we became our own non-profit. We feel this will enable us to achieve our objectives with better access to opportunities to raise funds. LTC is the leader in the Governor's Take One for the DJRC Prison in Nashville, TN.
Impact
We are the official mentoring for the Debra Johnson Rehabilitation Center (DJRC). We are also the biggest female Take One for the state of TN. We mentor women inside the prison and then follow them into their release. Because of this unique approach to mentoring our recidivism rate is less than 10%. We offer classes, one on one counseling as well as one on one mentoring. We follow the women upon release and stay with them for several months even years after release. These women become our friends and family.
We are heavily involved with a few transitional houses which includes Oak Cottage One and Two in Franklin, Healing Housing, in Franklin WOW in Nashville, Katherine House in Nashville, TPOM in Nashville and others. We teach, mentor, assist in needs, and more.
We are the mentoring component and mentoring for both Oak Cottages in Franklin, TN. This house includes many women who were incarcerated in jails all over TN and upper AL/
Needs
Financial to be able to run the programs inside and outside the prison. TN has expanded the women's prison to Henning and Bledsoe and we have been invited to enter those prisons to mentor. We teach cognitive behavior classes and have added a trauma section. We desire to add the family reunifications back into our program, but it takes money. We feel this is vital to re-entry with families. We work with the BEST program inside DJRC.
On the outside we assist with clothing, meds, groceries, and set ups in apartments which includes deposits. We supauma ply mentors to all the ladies in Oak Cottage 1 and 2 in Franklin, TN. We teach trauma recovery and toxic relationships.
CEO Statement
We are unique in that we form relationships that last a life time. We have mentees who we consider family and many years later are still involved in our lives. Some are now mentors, a board member, and project manager for a transitional house. This shows our process works and is a changing elements in lives.
Board Chair Statement
LTC has changed my outlook on the women we serve. I never realized how difficult re-entry is for these women.
