In 2022, Nashville Humane is now doing more to serve not only the pets, but pet families in our community. We want to be a great place to adopt a dog and a cat, and also a great service to the people in Nashville, middle Tennessee and throughout the region. We call it Sheltering as a Service. From our expanded food bank, to our Training for Forever program, to our Fospice and Temporary Care programs. We want to provide our community with the services and assistance they need to forever pet families. We believe the best shelter pet is the pet that never comes to the shelter. Pets are family and we want to help remove the barriers to pet ownership.

Background

The Nashville Humane Association is one of the oldest service organizations in Nashville. The roots of NHA can be traced back to a society founded in 1887 to protect children from inhumane working conditions and draft horses from mistreatment. This non-profit was incorporated in 1946 to protect the well being of animals in Davidson County. Today, NHA continues to promote education and the humane treatment of animals through adoption, pet visitation programs, lost and found services, Safe Haven for pets in domestic violence situations, low cost or free pet spay/neuter services for qualified families or individuals. The primary source of funding is through individuals, foundations and corporations of Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County. NHA is a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization.

Impact

Each year Nashville Humane helps nearly 4,000 pets find their forever families through our robust adoption program. Our impact isn't just in our own backyard, but all across the country with more than 70 local, regional and country-wide transport partners.

CEO Statement

Together, we have endured one of the most difficult times in recent history. In 12 months, Nashville has experienced a tornado, the pandemic, a bombing, and flooding. It is easy to only focus on the hardships, but at Nashville Humane we are reminded daily about our supportive and passionate animal-loving community. Let me share an example. Our industrial washer and dryer broke for a few days, and we were crestfallen as our animals need clean, warm bedding while under our care. Within 2 hours of putting the plea out, our community washed laundry and donated enough bedding to last us weeks! Our loving community, human and animal, are a bright spot during a dark time.

So today I am asking, if you have the means to do so, please consider helping us now by making a tax-deductible donation to help our animals and to help us continue to do this vital work to protect and care for our vulnerable pets in our community that are abandoned, homeless, abused, and neglected. Thousands of these animals come through our doors every year and we strive at providing stellar care to our animals. Your donations make that possible, in every sense of the word. Without your help, our shelter could not and would not survive.

If you can't make a donation, please know that we see you. You are our bright spot. There are so many ways you can support your local shelter from sharing posts on social to volunteering to fostering. The sky is the limit!

Thanks to all of you for supporting us in whatever ways that you do! We appreciate you and our animals are lucky to have friends and supporters like you!
