Mission

We bridge the gaps between support, resources, and programs, so autistic individuals are empowered to recognize their potential and discover the meaningful connections needed to realize their goals.

Background

Autism Tennessee was created in 1996 to improve access to autism information and community resources, parent-specialist collaboration, and social support for families of persons with autism. Self Advocates, parents, family members, educators, physicians, psychologists, therapists, and all other interested community members are encouraged to engage in our programs.

Impact

Autism Tennessee successfully launched Autism Awareness license plates throughout the state of Tennessee. Autism Tennessee launched a successful Adult Education Series conducted by an autism specialist and an adult with autism. This series is helpful for adults seeking resources and support in order to understand and manage their autism and connect to other in the autism community. Autism Tennessee hosted our Annual Fall Conference: featuring Temple Grandin, co-hosted by the Tennessee Department of Education. Autism Tennessee will focus on strengthening and expanding our existing system of volunteers to unify the autism community in Middle Tennessee. Autism Tennessee is exploring collaborative opportunities with other autism organizations in the area. Autism Tennessee is working to strengthen relationships with community pediatricians and diagnosticians to connect families with the services and support provided by Autism Tennessee at diagnosis.
