Mission

The mission of The Nature Conservancy is to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends.

Background

The Nature Conservancy is a global conservation organization dedicated to conserving the lands and waters on which all life depends. Guided by science, we create innovative, on-the-ground solutions to our world's toughest challenges so that nature and people can thrive together.

We are tackling climate change, conserving lands, waters and oceans at an unprecedented scale, providing food and water sustainably and helping make cities more sustainable. Working in 76 countries and territories-37 by direct conservation impact and 39 through partners-we use a collaborative approach that engages local communities, governments, the private sector, and other partners

TNC's Tennessee Chapter was founded in 1978 and has protected more than 450,000 acres across the Volunteer State. TNC has helped create or expand 31 state parks and natural areas, 20 Wildlife Management Areas, and nine national parks, forests, and wildlife refuges in Tennessee, in addition to establishing its own system of natural preserves.

Impact

Our work in Tennessee supports our 2030 goals which are focused on cutting-edge solutions to tackle the climate and biodiversity crises.

Tennessee is the most ecologically diverse inland state in the U.S., and our range of strategies aims to protect the land, water and air for all Tennesseans. To do this, we work alongside communities to build resilience to climate change, engage residents in local conservation opportunities and inspire thousands to see nature as a part of their own well-being. We have a long history of fostering relationships, building our team, and refining our approach, we know how to bring on the people, partnerships, tools, and capacity needed to be successful.
