The Improv Club is a burgeoning ensemble with a core of 10 emerging BIPOC improvisers. This group formed in late spring 2023 by way of an Unscripted project in North Nashville, through a partnership with J.U.M.P (Jefferson United Merchant Partnership.) The Improv Club hosts monthly improv meetups which are free and open to the public, led by BIPOC improvisers and hosted at community businesses and meeting spaces in BIPOC communities. Each meetup allows participants to learn and practice improv exercises, as well as explore improv style specifically developed by BIPOC artists (rather than the forms and style developed throughout the historically white art form of improv.) This program is the culmination of a several year initiative to invest in the North Nashville community, which was our organizational priority due to its proximity to our partner theater and only improv theater in Nashville: Third Coast Comedy Club.

THE HOME TEAM is Unscripted's very own performance cast. Whether performing to raise funds to support Unscripted programs at FUN shows or exposing new audiences to improv through community outreach performances - we love bringing our deeply supportive and joyful style of play to any stage. The Home Team is one of Unscripted's volunteer programs - allowing improvisers to use their skills to raise funds for community improv programs. The Home Team rehearses twice a month, and performs about 7 times a year. They are available for corporate events, community outreach performances, and more. Auditions are held each year to cast the home team, and casting prioritizes improvisers who may have limited previous opportunities to join improv teams (income restrictions, from a historically excluded group or community, etc.) Each cast member receives a professional photoshoot, a performance t-shirt, and a thank you dinner each year for their time.

CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments

In our strategic planning session, the board of directors, along with community volunteers and program participants, named Diversity and Inclusivity as our top priority throughout all governance, funding opportunities, community partnerships, and programming. With the development of a Diversity and Inclusion committee, we have many program initiatives which focus on this priority, and are excited to embark on these , both in the short and long term timelines.
