Description
In 2018, Actors Bridge was awarded a Catalyst Grant from Metro Arts to create a Directors Inclusion Initiative to train emerging theater directors of color.

Actors Bridge Ensemble's mission is to tell the stories Nashville needs to hear. We are committed to a color-conscious approach to playmaking, which means we must collaborate with directors of color in order to tell the stories of people of color with integrity. It is a natural extension of our training mission to add workshops for directors to our programming. We have contracted with some of the region's best directing faculty of color.

Our goal is simple. We must develop a culturally diverse pool of directors in order to fully inhabit our mission to tell the stories Nashville needs to hear. We are motivated to use our resources of talent, space, and expertise in support of this goal. We hope to make a positive contribution to the development of a richer directing pool for ourselves and the broader Nashville theater community.

Act Like A GRRRL is an autobiographical writing program for young women to achieve a public voice, working with female mentors in professional creative fields, while engaging with peers from diverse backgrounds. Numerous studies have shown that when they hit adolescence, formerly assertive, confident, healthy girls begin to change. They stop excelling academically, they develop eating disorders and anxieties about their bodies, and many become depressed or engage in self-destructive activities; in short, they begin conforming to the demands of a culture that is often hostile to them. ALAG gives girls the tools to analyze critically the culture in which they live so that they become active change agents rather than passive recipients of cultural messages. ALAG celebrates girls' strength and girls' voices and by so doing, promotes girls' leadership. The program has expanded to include offerings for adults, middle school girls and incarcerated women.

Actors Bridge provides local actors with an opportunity for serious study. We train in the Meisner Technique, developed by Sanford Meisner, a member of the legendary Group Theater and founder of the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York. The Meisner Technique is the acting method taught in the majority of graduate acting programs in the U.S. Our instructors teach the Technique at Belmont and Lipscomb Universities as well as at Actors Bridge. We have trained over 6,000 actors many of whom are working professionally on stages or in film in New York, Los Angeles, and Nashville. We also offer training in On-Camera Acting, Stage Combat, Audition Technique, Dialects, Shakespeare, Devised Theater, and Storytelling.

Description
Actors Bridge Ensemble produces a four-play professional season. We are committed to bringing socially-relevant new plays to Nashville which might not otherwise come to local audiences. We have staged over 100 plays, including 14 world premieres (first production anywhere) and 80 Nashville premieres (first production of that play in Nashville). We have a strong reputation as a company that takes bold risks, gives voice to marginalized stories, produces plays reflective of the current cultural moment, and highlights the experiences of women and girls.
