Description
During treatment for cancer, many people lose weight due to side effects from chemotherapy and radiation, such as nausea, taste changes and loss of appetite. Others gain weight due to medications, emotional eating and reduced activity. No matter which category a cancer survivor falls into, it is crucial they receive advice and guidance from a Registered Dietitian so they can create a healthy diet and reduce the risks for additional diagnosis or health issues, such as diabetes or cardiovascular disease. Our affiliate Registered Dietitians work with participants of the program to understand their current nutritional needs, how to use food and diet as a recovery tool and how to implement daily, healthy eating habits. By working one-on-one with cancer survivors, we are able to address the specific needs of each person, creating better outcomes and long-term success.

Description
Exercise is proven to be a safe, non-pharmacological and cost-effective therapy that provides multiple health benefits in cancer survivors, reducing symptoms and treatment side effects. Through this program, cancer survivors are given the opportunity to address and overcome the physical, psycho-physical and psychological side effects of cancer and its treatments. Survivor Fitness contracts qualified exercise specialists throughout Middle Tennessee to execute this program. Each participant is paired with an appropriate trainer to receive one-on-one training twice a week for 12 to 14 weeks (a total of 24 sessions). In addition, participants are provided a third workout to complete independently each week. This allows participants to gain confidence in their abilities, while meeting the recommended weekly physical activity for cancer survivors. Participants include individuals of all adult ages, diagnoses and fitness levels.
