HAPI presents public art exhibitions (featuring art by individuals in mental health and addiction recovery) to promote understanding and acceptance in the community and increase advocacy for the use of art in the recovery process. Exhibitions also encourage and advance HAPI artists, as it builds their confidence in their own abilities and brings a degree of respect and support from their community. Artworks range from paintings and drawings to sculptures and textiles and are displayed with labels specifying the title, the artist, where they live, and a short statement of what art means to them. The exhibitions are often in high-volume, public spaces such as the Metro Courthouse in downtown Nashville, Legislative Plaza at the state capitol, the Tennessee Performing Arts Center, and various Nashville Public Library branches and are viewed by approximately 28,500 individuals annually.
