Description
Our Juvenile Arthritis program is designed to provide local education, resources and support for families that often feel isolated and alone in their struggle. Our goal is to help them to better cope with the illness, improve their quality of life, and reach their full potential--by providing children and their families with information on juvenile arthritis and related conditions, treatment options, and self-management techniques that will help them take control of their own care--becoming more self-sufficient, independent and an advocate for their healthcare and medical needs. We will accomplish our goal through a series of events?which together will combine education, information, resources and opportunities to network and share experiences. These events will provide a time for the sharing of information, contacts and coping strategies, helping to end the feelings of isolation that can accompany the disease.

CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments

Despite many outward accomplishments, we continue to struggle with sustainability. For the last 5 years, Special Event revenue has been flat, we have seen no aggregate growth in individual giving and we project planned giving will decline in the coming years. We must not only align ourselves around a revenue and growth strategy, but we must also agree on our priorities. As part of the organization's larger move to focus on the areas of greatest impact to people living with arthritis, the Arthritis Foundation establishes four strategic pillars - all of which tie to the new Champion of Yes Brand. They are: Scientific Discovery, Help & Support, Advocacy and Access and Juvenile Arthritis. Our 2016 Goals: Scientific Discovery - Accelerate progress in new and better diagnostics and treatments, achieving results faster with and inclusive approach. Help and Support - Make a major difference in the lives of people with arthritis through personalized attention and expert guidance - whenever, wherever. Advocacy and Access - Be the most respected, authoritative voice for people with arthritis to regulators, insurers, employers and policymakers. Juvenile Arthritis - Meet the unique needs of JA Families with practical services and support to improve their lives every step of the way. We are leading the charge to accelerate the design and implementation of clinical studies for osteoarthritis (OA), thus opening the door for drug development and approval. We are empowering people to live better, with higher quality of life and less pain. We continue to develop and expand a design for a dynamic online community, MyAF, where consumers can define their own experiences with the Arthritis Foundation, and manage a customizable suite of tools and resources that meets their individual needs. Additionally, we are integrating the Arthritis Introspective network of support into local programming and will pilot a helpline with trained social workers for personalized support. We continue to educate insurance commissioners about the access issues people with arthritis face to garner their support of consumer-friendly policies. We are building state-specific tools to aid consumers in appealing insurance denials. We are fostering opportunities for our Juvenile Arthritis Families to make connections through camps and expanded national conferences. In addition, we are expanding our nationwide Teen Transition programming. Through the implementation of this plan we will create a reputation as the cause leader for audaciously attacking arthritis and its effects.
