Description
NashvilleHealth is excited to partner with Metro Nashville Public Schools to present Wellness Week 2022, May 9-13. Students will learn about and practice healthy lifestyles throughout the week with the help of teachers around the county and community partners. Themes and activities focused on engaging students and staff in physical activity, nutrition, and emotional well-being will be presented each day in Nashville elementary, middle, and high schools.

As a way of encouraging schools to participate, NashvilleHealth is offering $5,000 in prize money to the top schools to be spent on health/wellness materials.

Beneficiaries
Adolescents
Children
Children and Youth (0 - 19 years)
Long-term Success
Studies show students who establish healthy habits early will have better health outcomes in the long run. While Nashville is world renowned for its healthcare industry, compared to cities of similar size, our citizens rank last in health outcomes including life expectancy, infant mortality, smoking rates and mental health. Nashville's prosperity cannot be sustained with the sickest population and workforce. We must work with our children to establish healthy habits early.
Short-term Success
Students who are physically and mentally healthier will see benefits in the short term in their school work, productivity, and spend less time and money treating illnesses.

Description
Employ research and community insights to evaluate our performance as a city in addressing the pandemic, so we may identify areas of strength, areas of concern, and how to better position the city to be ready for the next health crisis.
1. Objectively examine steps taken leading up to and following the announcement of Nashville's first COVID-19 case.
2. Assess response activities during the crisis.
3. Provide engagement opportunities for organizations and individuals who care about and are responsible for Nashville's community resilience.
4. Guide advocates, researchers, policymakers, practitioners, and community members in efforts to recover from the effects of the pandemic and improve the trajectory of Nashville's health and economic recovery.
5. Share our process for potential adaptation by other communities to assist in their efforts to move forward with planning and preparedness.
Program Successes
Desired Outcomes:
1. Compile recommendations that warrant consideration for implementation during future crises.
2. Share key recommendations publicly through partner communication and public awareness strategies.
3. Leverage momentum of partnerships built during the evaluation process to take immediate action around revealed priorities and execute recommendations in the future.
4. These priority recommendations could include areas such as deeper understanding of Nashville's disparate populations, better coordination of city and non-profit services, support for first responders and health care professionals, improved coordination of public communication, shifting of philanthropic funding priorities.
5. Offer a complete report of strategy-based activities that may serve as a model for other communities to consider creation of community-driven solutions for addressing health emergencies.

Description
The Survey went out to more than 12,000 Davidson County mailboxes in Oct. 2018. Responses demonstrated a good representation of age, race and geographic location. Nearly 150 organizations shared about the survey with their constituents (more than 25,000 individuals). This first-of-a-kind survey helped us gain an accurate picture of the health of our city. Results are already playing an important role in setting future priorities for better allocation of health resources by business, government and nonprofits throughout Nashville. Having received an impressive 15.8 percent response rate to the more than 100 question survey, we now have wide-ranging data about the health of our citizens. This crosses gender, ethnicity and neighborhood. We continue to accept funds for Phase II of this project, so we can continue to raise awareness about critical survey findings.

Nashville is known globally as an innovative healthcare center, and NashvilleHealth is the organization that will carry that spirit across the social determinants of health to positively affect the health of our citizens. The power to convene is the key to NashvilleHealth's necessity. There are many organizations throughout Nashville doing good work to improve health outcomes, but it is only through collaboration and communication among those organizations that we will achieve our goal.
