Description
UBFM Nashville consists of dedicated, active, and passionate volunteers who distribute food, clothing, and other necessities via bicycle to those affected by homelessness in downtown Nashville. We meet in the Christ Church Cathedral parking lot (900 Broadway, Nashville, TN 37203) around 6:00pm every Monday and Thursday evening to load up supplies and go in search of our friends in need. We deliver regardless of temperature or weather and try to meet the specific needs of each person we serve (i.e. sleeping bags, feminine products, food for pets, etc.) - not just food and water. As a result of these personalized and consistent interactions, we have developed deep relationships with those we serve and are able to connect in a way that is unique when compared to other organizations serving those impacted by homelessness.
Program Successes
We see examples of our program's success on every single ride. From the subtle comments like, "Thank you - I didn't think I was going to eat tonight" or "I don't need anything, but it'd be great to just talk for a minute" to the more dramatic examples like calling for medical assistance after seeing someone's health deteriorate due to living on the streets or donating a bicycle to a man who needed transportation for work. Hunger was the reason we began the nonprofit but relationship building and supporting the most vulnerable in our community whether through food, clothing, or conversation is what we have become.

Long-term Success
Long term success for our organization is a Nashville where no one goes to bed hungry. We serve the homeless community, but our services do not address the root causes of homelessness - instead we are focused on serving the most immediate needs. Long term success would be the ability to provide food to the hungry, clothes to the cold, and conversation to the lonely until none of those services are needed.
Short-term Success
Short term success for our organization is to grow our base of volunteers and community support to the point where we have a reliable source of donations to cover our annual budget and to continue serving on two nights every week.
Program Success Monitored By
The success of UBFM Nashville can be seen in our volunteer growth and in our capacity to help those we serve. In just one year we have gone from 3 volunteers serving roughly 80 burritos once a week to 10-15 volunteers serving 240 burritos twice a week. With more community exposure we have been able to collect more high-demand items like sleeping bags and blankets, and with more volunteers we are now able to carry those extra supplies on our bicycles when we ride.
