Description
Layman Lessons Ministries procures and distributes over $ 7 million in donated food and drinks to the hungry and truly needy in 24 states from coast to coast. We and our ALL VOLUNTEER staff serve Nashville and Middle Tennessee by storing and repackaging donated shelf stable food and drink items into Food Boxes of Love at our Tithe Barn in Madison, TN, which are in turn distributed 6 days weekly to the hungry, homeless and truly needy by an ALL VOLUNTEER staff. This program has many moving parts and offers many opportunities for VOLUNTEERS who can serve for 1 - 3 hours a week. Opportunities to serve presently include repacking bulk beans and rice into ziplock bags, packing Food Boxes of Love as part of an assembly line team, driving a forklift, placing packed Food Boxes of Love onto cargo trailers, pulling a cargo trailer with a pickup truck and delivering Food Boxes of Love to the hungry and homeless.

Layman Lessons Ministries started in 2000 when Louie E. Johnston, Jr. began a street ministry feeding hot meals to the homeless on the streets of downtown Nashville, TN. The ministry routinely fed between 125 and 150 people every Saturday morning. In 2012, when he was forced to relocate his feeding operation, the ministry transitioned into delivering boxes of shelf stable food to homeless camps and boxes of fresh produce and dairy products to the truly needy. Presently the ministry procures, packages and delivers between 120 and 150 shelf stable Food Boxes of Love in Nashville weekly and procures and distributes 60 more truck loads of food, drinks and essential items in 24 states across the US from coast to coast annually.
