Description
What:
Students will participate in a 8 week Superhero Diversity Summer Camp from 8am-4pm, Monday - Friday from June 3rd through July 26th. This camp is designed to introduce students to the diverse mainstream superheroes we all know and love. Our weekly selected superheroes are intentional, essential, and fall within Maslow's (expanded) Hierarchy of Needs. By introducing the diverse set of superheroes we provide the opportunity for students to explore the differences in each and appreciate the need for acceptance regardless of a person's identity or background. We further encourage students to apply the superhero stories to real life concepts as a way to divulge diversity.
Outcome Objective:
Black Lemonade will increase at least 60% of participating student's self-actualization by 80%. This will be measured by pre and post surveys given to both students and their caregivers, administered by camp staff.

Grow: While cultivating and connecting we look to meet the need of the infamous slogan "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade," through a student-led project that allows students to identify the lemons (problems) within their school or community and provide the lemonade (solution). We have set out to connect our community leaders (community superheroes) to come in and engage with students and explain their role as a community leader, the importance, and the outcomes they provide. We want students to continue to feel inspired towards creating their purposeful lemonade. As the need grows for more clarification we will seek additional internal and external community partners/professionals/organizations/leaders to help students navigate towards completing their vision for the project.

Digital Black seeks to educate and equip our minority and underserved high school students to be able to enter into a field of work that lacks diverse representation, tech, while simultaneously preparing them as leaders who advance the work of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Annually, through intentional partnerships, Black Lemonade will seek professionals who have notable track records in some area of tech including, but not limited to, photography, digital marketing, coding, etc. Further, our program engages students in diverse training, connects them with community organizations, mentors, and leaders to help spearhead their efforts towards advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Lastly, through our partnership with Power Youth (a funding source from partnering organizations: Goodwill Industries and the Metropolitan Government of Nashville Davidson County). This intentional partnership allows youth to enjoy this internship as a paid experience.
