Description
Turner's Heroes provides patients at children's hospitals a means of escape and enjoyment through superhero-themed events. These events include customizing their very own superhero capes surrounded by their family and community heroes. These events fall under play therapy which is a proven way to decrease pain and anxiety for pediatric patients. Cape designing events will ease the feelings of isolation that many patients feel while showing the patients that they are superheroes.
Program Successes
Have provided over 750 capes to pediatric patients. We have received messages and pictures from parents 1-2 years after events to tell us how much the patient's cape still means to them. For those with long term illnesses, we have been told that patients have continued to wear their capes during treatment.

Description
Fund pediatric cancer research in Middle Tennessee through grants and endowment funds. Fund grants specifically focused on making treatments more accessible and effective. We have funded two of these $50,000 grants at the Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt. The first is focused on expanding the accessibility of genetic testing for pediatric cancer patients in order to determine the proper path forward for treatment. The second is focused on new treatment pathways for Acute Myeloid Leukemia for pediatric patients.
