Viva Voce ("with a lively voice") is a non-auditioned choral ensemble for students in grades 6-12 of all levels of musicianship. This choir is a good starting point for students with no previous musical experience, and a good place for more experienced musicians to develop their skills. Through the exploration of various genres and styles of choral literature, choristers will learn music history and music theory as well as develop tonal awareness, sightreading skills, and proper vocal technique. There will be a strong emphasis on the development of listening skills essential for a high quality ensemble sound. In addition to singing all together, the choir may be divided into middle school and high school groups as well as men's and women's groups. Each singer's dedication to daily practice will strengthen individual vocal performance and thus improve the choir's sound. The choir will perform in concerts at the end of each semester as well as in the community all year long.

Musica! class provides students in grades 2nd-6th with the opportunity to be exposed to the foundations of music through a general music class. Just as a visual artist might have several mediums to use, our Musica! students will have the opportunity to try different types of instruments and music-making in this very hands-on class. Students' learning experiences will include physical movement activities, singing, listening, and introduction to symbols of music notation. Students will begin to learn the basic elements of music - rhythm, melody, and harmony. Three specific vehicles of instruction will be utilized:
Orff instruments (glockenspiels & xylophones)
Nuvo instruments (beginner innovative wind instruments that are modeled on formal band instruments) & floor percussion (toms and gathering drums)
Choral activities (Curwen hand signs for Solfeggio, folk songs & partner songs, "sound before sight" singing, TaKaDiMi rhythms, & proper vocal technique for the young singer)

Cantabile means "singing" or "songlike," and that is the goal for our Cantabile Ensemble. This ensemble comprises the most outstanding instrumental musicians in Overture. While students already possess a high degree of ability, the further advancement of musical skills is paramount to the success of the student and the organization. Great emphasis is placed on individual musical responsibility. This group of advanced instrumentalists will dive into more difficult musical repertoire together. Membership in this group is by audition every year. Cantabile Ensemble will perform at semester concerts and have additional opportunities to serve our community by playing at retirement homes, churches, and other possible venues. Depending on our enrollment and instrumentation, we hope to participate in Concert Performance Assessment (CPA) hosted by the Middle Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association (MTSBOA).
