Description
The purpose of this program is to provide accessibility for BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ individuals seeking safe, competent mental health care. We believe that autonomy and choice is imperative in order for individuals to have successful client/therapist rapport and outcome. Often times, when individuals from our BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities are limited in their financial capacity to see a mental health provider of their choosing, their mental health journeys are often unsuccessful, abbreviated, or harmful. Components of our Clients in the Margins program include: 1) Therapy Fund which provides qualifying BIPOC/LGBTQIA+ participants with 12 therapy sessions to see a provider of their choosing, and when requested, Healing in the Margins can assist individuals in finding a representative and competent therapist in the community who fits their needs; 2.) partnership with parallel and adjacent organizations to provide psychoeducation, and 3) community process and support groups.

Program Successes
"I am so grateful for the opportunity to attend this Brainspotting training thanks to Healing in the Margins. I work with many BIPOC clients, especially Black woman and adult children of immigrants, and I know that they have often experienced trauma that is difficult to process through talk therapy alone. Brainspotting is a modality that I know could help many of my clients and I am proud to know feel equipped to utilize it. But maybe even more importantly, attending this training with all BIPOC attendees was a powerful, connecting, and inspiring experience for me that I will never forget."-- Stacey A. (Program Participant).

"Being in a space that was intentionally curated for BIPOC people, there was a level of safety and sacredness that I can't fully describe through words. It was like being held and cared for when you just need to release and feel your emotions."-- Pam B. (Program Participant).

39 uniques BIPOC / LGBTQIA+ therapists served through our program Jan-Aug 2023.

Long-term Success
We hope to mitigate the rate of burnout in mental health clinicians who are black, indigenous, people of color, or LGBTQIA+ in Davidson County (and eventually the state at large) while strengthening the clinical excellence of therapists within these groups.
Short-term Success
80% of clinicians who participate in 2 or more components of our program over the course of 1 year, will have increased knowledge and clinical skill to serve their clients with competence. 70% of clinicians who participate in our workshop series, or upcoming COHORT program will report an increased sense of community and decreased feelings of isolation or marginalization in the field.
