Description
The number one priority at Glen Leven Presbyterian Church Day School is quality care for all children in the context of an educational environment. The Day School is an integral part of the ministry of Glen Leven Presbyterian Church. We take great pride in being one of the oldest church/pre-school programs in Nashville; our Kindergarten was first offered in 1950. The mission of our school is to utilize the full resources of Glen Leven Presbyterian Church in providing programs designed to meet the spiritual, emotional, physical, intellectual and social needs of the of the individual children as well as provide an effective ministry to their families.
Glen Leven Presbyterian Church Day School is a child-centered program designed to offer a first step into the world of education for young children. We serve children 6 weeks old through 5 years old or until the child goes to kindergarten. Glen Leven Day School is a Reggio-influenced program that is guided by the child's interest.
Program Successes
Through word-of-mouth and feedback from "graduate families", we know that the developmental and academic preparation a child receives during their years at our school prepares them well for their future educational endeavors. We maintain a large waitlist of families who would like for their child to attend our school, this indicating the reputation and success of the program.

GLPCDS has been in existence since 1950. During those years, it has served the children of the community, first as a Mother's Day Out program and then becoming a full-day childcare program where working parents could confidently leave their children and know that they were safe, healthy and while being educated. This Christian-based program prioritizes the well-being of each individual child, emphasizing that a child will flourish and learn when they have the opportunity to learn through hands-on play within a nurturing, safe environment. The program uses a Reggio Emilia influenced approach to curriculum where the interest of the child is encouraged in their learning process through discovery, exploring ideas and experimentation in implementing those thoughts. The school hires experienced teaching and support educators to guide the children through this process of learning. Our goal is to give children the skills to help them be successful when they enter kindergarten.
Short-term Success
The short-term success for each child who attends our school is evident in the daily progress noted in their development through play-based learning. We serve around 80 children per year and most "graduate" from our program to go to kindergarten unless there is a job-related move for the family, etc. in other words, once a child/family becomes part of the GLPCDS "family", they recognize the importance of the program for the child and their family, and they stay at the school.
Program Success Monitored By
The parents and staff evaluate the program annually through an online survey. The teaching staff have open communication using the ProCare Program to inform the parents of the child's activities and details of their care daily. The school sends out a newsbyte weekly to share all-school information. The Director has an open-door policy for families and staff to communicate with her directly, when needed.
The nature of our business, where a parent is leaving their child in our care, lends itself to immediate feedback when a questions or concern arises. Those needs are met quickly and resolved to everyone's satisfaction, thus exemplifying the success of the program.
