Description
Upward Stars Nashville reaches over 2,000 young athletes annually, through developmental, performance, and travel basketball teams, leagues, and tournaments. The purpose is to have a positive impact on the lives of these young men, pouring into them mentally, athletically, spiritually, and socially. Based on Luke 2:52, we believe it's what sets Stars Basketball Club apart from other sports teams/programs. Too often young athletes are used to achieve a purpose that is not for their benefit, but for what the athlete can do for the coach or parent. STARS Basketball Club is out to change that by reclaiming youth sports for the benefit of the athlete.

CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments

There are three primary challenges faced by STARS Basketball Club. We feel led to expand our METRO Ministy and reach more Davidson County kids. The salary for a METRO Ministry Director would be $40,000 to $50,000. Second challenge continues to be assisting players who do not have the financial resources to participate in the basketball program. Providing scholarships to players who have need is an important component of our fund raising plan; anticipated needs total $60,000. We know that players who are able to participate in the STARS Basketball Club will receive high level coaching, but more importantly, exposure to life lessons (e.g. Character, Making Wise Decisions, Teamwork, Perseverance, Discipline, etc.)! The third challenge is finding and renting places to play. Once we have coaches and players. the next need is a place to play. We currently spend approx. $200,000 in facility costs annually; the club would like to apply those funds to a mortgage, rather than rental payments. We need a facility!
