Description
The Preschool at High Hopes Development Center nurtures and educates children with and without special needs from six weeks of age to Pre-Kindergarten. The Preschool provides inclusive education in a research-based, developmentally-appropriate manner, while maintaining a ratio of 60% children who are typically-developing to 40% children who have a special need ranging anywhere from developmental delays to rare chromosomal disorders. Early childhood inclusion positively impacts our community for generations by teaching our children human equality and to be helpful and respectful to others who may be different. This model of educating children with and without disabilities alongside each other further instills the values of diversity, acceptance, and individuality. Curricula include Read, Play, & Learn; Doors to Discovery; DLM Express; The Creative Curriculum; Handwriting Without Tears; and Do Re Play Music.

CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments

Families in every demographic group, including all income levels and ethnicities, have children with special needs. To ensure children and families have equal access to developmental programming and therapeutic support, High Hopes Development Center offers competitive tuition rates and does not charge families of children with special needs any more than families of typically-developing children. High Hopes also maintains insurance contracts with most major commercial plans despite reimbursement rates that are much lower than the cost of providing services. Our clinic is one of only a few pediatric therapy clinics in the entire mid-state that accepts such a comprehensive list of insurers. Despite High Hopes' strong history of serving children and improving the lives of families in our community, the significant challenge remains of meeting the demands of children in need of our services while keeping our expenses manageable and continuing to provide the expert care for which we are known. The rapidly changing healthcare environment affects High Hopes revenue sources. Insurance reimbursements are constantly fluctuating and some parents are no longer able to afford preschool tuition. Last fiscal year, tuition and fees covered 73% of operating costs, thus the need for fundraising to help fill the shortfall. In order to remove the burden of expensive rent and help stabilize High Hopes financially, a capital campaign is underway to fully fund the new 14,400 square foot facility.
