The Heritage Museum is in the 'building phase'. It will be housed in the 1929 RBS Bank building once the building has been restored. The museum will host a series of rotating exhibits that tell the story of Red Boiling Springs from its earliest days (1800s) as a health resort, through the boom days and the floods that nearly wiped out the town. The Walking Quilt Trail combines folk art and local history in a series of painted quilts that are showcased throughout the city park system. Local artists paint 2' x 2' squares to represent a quilt pattern chosen by a sponsor. These quilts are placed in display boxes mounted on 4x4 posts. Each display box has the history of the quilt pattern, the name of the sponsor, the artist and if it was done in honor/memory of someone. The trail meanders through our mile long park system. Thus, the Walking Quilt Trail provides and artistic outlet and a health outlet for our community and visitors.

CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments

The challenge of any non-profit that is a true volunteer organization is people and money. There is not enough of either one. Being a small community of just over 1,000 people our pool for volunteers is limited. We are concentrating on increasing membership and going farther afield seeking members and volunteers from communities in the surrounding area. Looking for former residents and those with memories of Red Boiling Springs during its resort days that would like to help preserve the town. Again, being a small community our immediate financial resources are limited. We only have one large industry (Baby Nov) but we need to tap into other businesses in the county. The program that has the most concern is the Heritage Museum. Because of the pressing need to repair the building before any further damage is done, we have taken out a mortgage on the building. We will then have to double our efforts to repay this loan as quickly as possible. There are few grants (and those are limited in scope) that are available for brick and mortar projects. We depend heavily on the generosity of donors. While we are limited by our size, we have a good working relationship with the city and county government and with the local businesses. These relationships make it possible for us to meet our mission of preserving our historic resources and creating an environment for quality living.
