Mission
Tennessee Baptist Adult Homes is a benevolent Christian ministry providing residential care for senior adults and adults with intellectual disabilities.
Background
In 1974, the Tennessee Baptist Convention created the Tennessee Baptist Service Corporation (TBSC) for the purpose of developing retirement housing across the state. Later, the TBSC incorporated with its own 501(c)3 status and changed its name to Tennessee Baptist Adult Homes, Inc. (TBAH). Currently, TBAH has an independent living senior adult residential campus in Nashville and one in Johnson City. Following discussion among interested individuals and groups, the Tennessee Baptist Convention in 1988 requested that TBAH assume responsibility for developing group homes for adults with intellectual disabilities as well. Local Baptist groups sponsored, bought and remodeled or built houses that were donated to TBAH to manage. Two homes are in Middle Tennessee and three are in East Tennessee. While the primary focus of its work is providing quality, affordable housing for senior adults and adults with intellectual disabilities, TBAH also serves as a resource for individuals and churches in better understanding these residential services and others that may be available to them.

CEO Statement
Tennessee Baptist Adult Homes emphasizes the dignity and value of every person as someone created in the image of God. That value, based on our Christian faith, is central to everything we are about. Consequently, we do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, or background in welcoming residents into our homes and care. The criteria for admission relates to need and appropriateness of our services. Because we are a faith-based, not for profit organization, we strive for affordability and quality rather than a financial return on investment. Our benefit is the knowledge that we are making a difference in the lives of our residents and their families. Because of this, we provide homes rather than 'warehouses' for senior adults and adults with intellectual disabilities. Our emphasis is on the personal growth, well-being, and quality of life for our residents. With regard to our ministry to adults with intellectual disabilities, our work at socialization, personal interaction, recreation, and life skills provide meaningful days and, we believe, add to the number of their days. Residents have a sense of accomplishment as they learn new things and participate in new activities. Many of the senior adults we serve in 'independent living' have aged in place and require some assistance, either from family members, friends, and/or neighbors. Providing activities and outings builds community and interdependence among the residents. Management and maintenance staff persons are also on the alert to special needs the residents might have. The board of director and staff feel blessed to have this wonderful opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our residents.
Board Chair Statement
The ministry of Tennessee Baptist Adult Homes continues to be a successful ministry. We minister to adults who have a variety of needs. These needs include a Retirement community and Resident Homes for adults with intellectual disabilities. We have a great staff that sees the importance of ministering to the residents and their families. We as a board are inspired when we realize the high quality of care our staff maintains in all of these ministries. Our biggest challenge is to maintain our financial support to help us continue at the top quality that we expect. We do have immediate needs that we would like to meet. Due to minimal increases from the Tennessee Baptist Convention for the past several years and realizing that Social Security and Medicaid payments are increasing minimally each year also, we are facing needs that are a real challenge for us to meet at the present. Our Middle Tennessee Homes for the Mentally Challenged are in immediate need capital improvements. Financial support would greatly help Tennessee Baptist Adult Homes to maintain our high quality and level of care. It would also help to develop more ministry opportunities to serve the families of Tennessee.
