The Nashville Urban Debate League hosts an average of 6 monthly debate tournaments throughout the academic school year. These tournaments bring together students from schools across Metro Nashville and gives them the opportunity to practice their public speaking and debating skills in a competitive environment. Volunteer judging from community professionals and local college students help students grow in their skills and confidence.

Every school that participates with NUDL is required to host weekly after school practices for their students. In practices, students learn skills including public speaking, evidence analysis, and research. NUDL provides free curriculum and materials to schools. Our staff members attend practices to support teacher-coaches.
Additionally, the Nashville Urban Debate League holds 2 day-long workshops for all debaters in the beginning and middle of the school year. We also host monthly Novice workshops for first-year debaters. These workshops give students an opportunity to practice and develop their skills in preparation for tournaments and meet with career professionals.

Our students have received scholarships to attend these programs at Harvard University, Emory University, University of Michigan, Dartmouth University, and Montgomery Bell Academy, and we will continue to expand this list each year.
It is our goal in the future to provide a free or low-cost summer program for students in Nashville who are unable to attend out of town camps.
