Description
The Nashville Debate League depends on the MNPS teachers who take on the role of debate coach at each school we serve, and we strive to do our part to provide them with the training and support they need to effectively lead their teams. We hold workshops, provide one-on-one training, furnish materials, recruit volunteers from the debate community to assist with practices, and help with student recruitment.

The Nashville Debate League holds a workshop for all debaters at the beginning of the school year and monthly workshops throughout the school year. In addition, we provide volunteer coaches from the debate community to help with practices and furnish all the evidence and materials the debaters will need to compete. During the summer, we provide opportunities for students to attend league-sponsored and other competitive debate camps.

Our league raises funds throughout the year to send our students to summer debate camps at prestigious universities and other competitive institutions. Our students have received scholarships to attend these programs at Harvard University, Emory University, University of Michigan, Dartmouth University, and Montgomery Bell Academy, and we will continue to expand this list each year.

Description
Each month, MNPS student debaters have the opportunity to compete in a NDL-sponsored tournament with volunteer judges who are lawyers, business professionals, educators, current and former debaters, and caring members of the community who sign up through Hands-On Nashville. They are served breakfast and lunch and enjoy a day of fun, friendly competition that ends with an awards celebration complete with trophies and medals.

Each year, our four city champions and their coaches earn an all-expense paid trip to the NAUDL National Championship Tournament held at a prestigious university in a major U.S. Our champions compete against the other champions from urban debate leagues all around the country. It is the highlight of our year and the goal many debaters set for themselves!
