CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments
While the challenges facing Senior Citizens of Hendersonville, Inc. are many, most can be attributed to the increase in growth of the membership, currently at over 1,300 members. This is due in large part to the reduced age (50) for membership participation, and the wide range of program options currently offered to its members and the influx of people moving to Middle Tennessee. With the growing desire of today's Senior to age in place and to maintain a healthy lifestyle, the Center's emphasis on health and wellness help to address the special health issues facing them. Engaging business and religious leaders, as well as local government officials in efforts to support and fund the programs at the Center is paramount if we are to continue to offer the types of activities that enhance the mental, physical and emotional needs of many underserved seniors in this community. Business-sponsored educational programs featuring topics of particular interest to this age demographic help members build relationships with local businesses that desire the patronage of the senior population and feel the need to keep members informed on topics related to financial management, insurance/Medicare concerns, health care options and end of life planning. Keeping the activities and the on-going needs of the Center in the public's eye not only brings in potential members, but also helps to build awareness of the needs of a segment of the population who are the first to have things taken away and the last to receive things. We have found that many people overlook this group of people when it comes to planning for future facilities, and providing for the immediate concerns of an ever-growing aging population. We are embarking on a re-branding campaign to enhance the status of our centers, as are many across America. The older person doesn't like to be reminded of their age and the word "senior" has somewhat negative connotations. Therefore, we are embracing this with vigor and a campaign for a brighter logo and mor relevant tag line. Details soon! |
