CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments
During 2018, our 11th year of providing adult day services, Mindful Care served 28 participants who were provided a total of an estimated 10,800 hours of hands-on programming. The 28 caregiving families received caregiver education via informational newsletters, Alzheimer's Association materials, and consultation with Elders Mindful Care staff. In addition to the provision of the activity program for persons with memory loss, our major goal is to provide the caregivers with time off from caregiving concerns in order to relieve their level of stress and improve their lives in specific ways. A 26-question survey was utilized during 2018, and the following data is a summary from those family caregivers who completed the questionnaire: 82% of caregivers reported that the program did prevent or delay institutionalization or home care services. This goal is probably our most important goal to achieve since it is an indicator of client health, caregiver health, and keeping the family intact through the support of adult day services.100% of caregivers noted improvement in their family member's social and emotional health.73% believed there was prevention or slowing of the participant's further cognitive decline 57% of caregivers reported their own improved physical health. 92% of caregivers reported their own improved emotional health 100% of caregivers reported lessening of stress. 100% of caregivers reported more time for healthy behaviors specifically: employment, leisure, shopping, rest, exercise, and other.100% of caregivers reported that they are "very satisfied" with the way the program staff related to the participant. 55% of caregivers reported that the participant's physical abilities (getting up from a chair, walking, balance, flexibility) improved during attending the program. 100% of caregivers reported that program services improved the quality of life of the participant. This goal is another important objective of the program and the scoring shows that the program is carrying out our mission to provide a safe and caring environment that promotes independence, self-esteem, individuality, and dignity for impaired senior adults. We became a licensed program in November 2017. Mindful Care ADS provides families with affordable relief at the modest fee of just $45 per day, with a $5 discount/day for monthly payments with one check. Additional funds are needed to sustain the program. We continually fund-raise and submit grant applications to Foundations to help us continue to provide affordable adult day care. We provide a Fee Assistance Program for those who qualify with low income, and funding is needed for that particular program. During our 2018 fiscal year, two FAP slots were supported by grants from the CFMT and Charity Circle of Murfreesboro. With additional funds, this program will continue through 2019. The fee assistance funds needed for two full-time slots is $10,000. Volunteers are welcome at Mindful Care. We have had volunteers from all over Rutherford County, including student interns from MTSU in the fields of sociology and psychology. We are most appreciative of these people who donate their time to our program. |
