| Donna's Experience: Donna is passionate about empowering youth who can, in turn, be adults making a positive difference in their family and community . She holds a Bachelor's degree in Public Management and has served at several area non-profits including serving on the Board of Directors at Preston Taylor Ministries. She has also served at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee, CASA , Special Olympics, Agape and is employed in the Nashville Public Schools system. She is a recipient of the Mary Catherine Strobel award and the Tennessee Governor's Volunteer Star award for service to youth. She is a published author. Through two decades of working with under-resourced youth and having a passion for both teens and photography, she realized that purchasing expensive senior picture packages was not a possibility for most of the families with whom she came in contact. She began providing a photo session and prints as a senior gift for teens at a local nonprofit. This continued for several years and provided much joy for students, parents and grandparents as one of the "Rites of Passage" which marks the important milestone of high school graduation. After a very busy spring of photographing MNPS students on her own, she began to realize the need was great and she should connect with others who would be willing to assist. Through personal extensive experience in the Nashville nonprofit sector, research, interviews to gain expertise in starting a nonprofit and also having contacts as an employee in Metro Nashville Public Schools, Shine Photography went from being a vision to reality. |
