Mission

Transform the Lives of Women and Children: Mind, Body, Soul.

Background

Daughters of the King ("D.O.T.K." and/or "Daughters") is a Charitable Nonprofit Organization founded in January 2014. D.O.T.K. is comprised of twelve women from different backgrounds with a mission to: Transform the Lives of Women and Children: Mind, Body, & Soul. While not specifically listed as a religious organization, our services are as a Christ-centered nonprofit organization that ministers articulate efforts driven to demonstrate the love of Christ in practical ways and facilitate a positive change in the lives of others. We believe efforts driven to demonstrate the love of Christ in practical ways will positively transform the lives of women and children across the nation. D.O.T.K. believes spiritual fitness, physical fitness and mental fitness are crucial and key to overcoming adverse situations, circumstances, conditions and self-defeat; therefore, D.O.T.K. initiates community outreach efforts to provide free meals to combat hunger on the local level, offer mentoring to those living in low income and inner-city neighborhoods, and build on the relationship developed in these efforts to work towards ending low self-esteem & the negative self-image among children (especially adolescent girls and teen girls), young adults, women, and eradicate racism, hunger and dependence on welfare programs.

Impact

During the summer of 2014, D.O.T.K. recognized the need for a supplemental feeding program to assist families with the rising cost of food and the demand of feeding their children during the summer school break. D.O.T.K.'S feeding program -FEED MY LAMBS-was initiated with the idea of providing home cooked meals to school age children; however, D.O.T.K. -recognizing one in eight people in the area and one in five children are food insecure-expanded its reach by offering free lunch plates and fresh fruits and vegetables three days per week to not only school age children, but to the general public. With a desire to ensure the most vulnerable and economically challenged receive a meal, D.O.T.K. implemented a meal delivery initiative to ensure meals are delivered to parents without transportation, seniors, home bound, disabled, homeless and low income families residing within the local community especially in food desert areas where the closest grocery store is more than a mile away. As of today, D.O.T.K. serves an average of 300 plates per week and has distributed over 25, 000 free meals since 2014. D.O.T.K. continues to increase in monetary donations and food donations which come by way of food drives, restaurants, grocery stores, local food growers, partnership with local church congregations, businesses, organizations, youth groups and volunteers. In addition , D.O.T.K. recognized the the need to assist parents with the cost of backpacks, school supplies, and hygiene items prior to returning to school. With this in mind, D.O.T.K. initiated its 1st Annual Back to School Field Day Extravaganza during the summer of 2014. Through this community event, D.O.T.K. has served over 4,000 families and school age children ranging from P-K grade levels to college age students. Today, D.O.T.K. continues to expand its reach in order to serve a greater number while continuing to fulfill its mission.
