Mission

In service and faith, we nurture children in an engaging learning community, regardless of income.

Background

The King's Daughters Day Home opened in January of 1966 with a mission to provide excellent child care at a low cost to families facing financial challenges. Currently, care is offered to children ages 6 weeks to up to 5 years of age. Our goal is to ensure enhanced child care and family support services for children regardless of their caretaker's ability to pay.

Impact

Programs at The King's Daughters Child Development Center ensure that children build physical and cognitive skills in a developmentally appropriate manner. Goals for this year include sustainably navigating the retaining and hiring of effective staff during the current economic climate, to build capacity back to full enrollment post initial Covid-19 closure, and to move family outreach from a strictly virtual realm to more of a hybrid approach. Accomplishments of the past year include building up enrollment numbers to almost pre-pandemic levels, remaining in operation during a time when many child care centers have been forced to close, and adding another level to our sliding scale in order to meet greater financial need.

Needs

The majority of KDCDC's pressing needs stem from the current hiring crisis. We need strategies and funding that allow us to offer competitive salaries and benefits while planning ahead for sustainability in the years to come.
An additional need is to reimagine our community engagement strategies with current and prospective donors and volunteers to reach a wider audience while also better cultivating relationships as we navigate changes due to Covid-19.

CEO Statement

After almost 60 years of service, King's Daughters is committed to continuing our decades-long legacy of providing affordable childcare for families in need. We provide rich, welcoming, child-led experiences that stimulate growth and encourage the development of the whole child -- physically, intellectually, and social-emotionally through the three "teachers": our staff, their families, and the environment. While tuition rates continue to increase in childcare centers across the state, KDCDC has added another level to our sliding scale, resulting in 86% of our current families paying less than full price. Through the continued generosity of our community, we are able to provide generations of families with quality care regardless of income.

Board Chair Statement

We know that one of the greatest challenges facing families living in the Nashville area is finding affordable child care for their children. King's Daughters is one of very few play-based programs in the Madison area that utilizes a sliding scale and accepts government vouchers for care. Our overall greatest impact is that we prepare children for primary school. For over five decades, KDCDC programs have empowered thousands of lives by fostering a love for learning and preparing children for school and life. Families continue spreading the word about KDCDC as a high quality early education program at a cost they can afford. We are grateful for the continued support of our donors and the community at large.
