Description
The King's Daughters Day Home dba The King's Daughters Child Development Center provides individual early childhood development approach that is based on each child's stage of development. The goal is to provide the best possible programs for cognitive, social/emotional, and physical development. We use the Reggio-inspired, project-based approach to learning, led by the individual interests of the children. We serve ages 8 weeks to five years of age.
Program Successes
When Elena entered our program at age three, she struggled with English as a second language. She had difficulty communicating with others, and was falling behind in literacy. Elena's teacher worked tirelessly to build trust and connection with her and among the entire class. The teacher cultivated learning opportunities that reflected Elena's interests and also recommended that her family take part in KDCDC family workshops. Elena's mother and older siblings came to almost every workshop, listening to and engaging with the material, and committing to practice the strategies with Elena.

After enrolling in our program:
-Elena's language development grew exponentially.
-She has meaningful conversations with adults and peers.
-Elena began engaging in story time and practicing her writing skills.
-She developed connections with other students and teachers.

We are so grateful that we could provide the community and tools that Elena and her family needed to thrive.

Long-term Success
A meaningful example of our long term success is our generational legacy. Many students who have attended KDCDC over the years have gone on to enroll their children and even their grandchildren in our program. Serving generations of families is a privilege that KDCDC does not take lightly. We are grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve families year after year.
Short-term Success
Our objectives include that 85% of students in each class will continually meet developmentally appropriate benchmarks in categories such as physical, social/emotional, cognitive, language, literacy, science, technology, math, and the arts.

Specifically, our current annual objectives include:
-85% of preschool children meet their personalized GOLD developmental goals
-85% of our preschool children meet GRTR benchmarks
-85% of Pre-K students are deemed kindergarten ready by PALS
-90% of our infants and toddlers meet personalized age-appropriate developmental milestones using Frogstreet Trackers
-All classrooms measure "Mostly functional implementation" (3 on a scale of 4, 4 being the highest) or "Fully functional development" (4/4) on the Conscious Discipline scale
Program Success Monitored By
We formally assess students twice annually and informally track goals continually throughout the school year. We utilize Teaching Strategies GOLD, and Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening (PALS) to assess preschool/pre-k students and Frogstreet Trackers to assess infants and toddlers. These assessments incorporate formal and informal observation and documentation to determine growth. We also assess each of our classrooms utilizing the Conscious Discipline Progress Assessment. GOLD measures developmentally appropriate benchmarks in the categories of physical, social/emotional, cognitive, language, literacy, science, technology, math, and the arts. PALS assesses pre-kindergarten students on Kindergarten readiness in literacy. Conscious Discipline measures levels of implementation of modeling and encouraging the skills of Composure, Assertiveness, and Making Better Choices within the classroom.

CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments

The King's Daughters Child Development Center maintains an open and inviting environment that welcomes families and encourages all parties to work cooperatively for the best interests of the child. Developmentally appropriate goals, which address social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth, are set for each child and progress is monitored regularly. The Reggio-inspired, project-based approach is implemented by the classroom teachers. A full time instructional coach is on the team to insure that activities and lessons offered meet the needs of the children and families at the center. Parent workshops are offered throughout the year in an effort to educate and support parents. The center offers educational opportunities for parents, children, and the staff.
