Mission

Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue is committed to 'Helping His Helpless' through quality care and healing, adoptions, and population control awareness. What sets us apart from others is we never have a financial cap on what we will spend to get those we rescue back to good health. We seek out specialists when needed and provide the same medical care we would for our own personal pets.

Lifeguards at work!
Last two years have been unusually difficult for everyone, but it has been especially hard for frontline workers and animal welfare advocates. In 2021 we were able to almost double our numbers of animals saved thanks to your donations! Proverbs became the lifeguard for many neglected, malnourished animals in need of severe medical care. We threw out the lifeline for countless voiceless animals.

As a primarily volunteer run, foster-based rescue, our foster homes, families, and volunteers are essential to what we do. Without our foster homes we would not be able to save as many animals each year. Proverbs depends on families opening their homes and their hearts to abused, neglected, hurting souls. This is where the saved learn to trust and love again. A lesson we keep learning is that we need our pets just as much as they need us, if not more.

Background

Proverbs 1210 Animal Rescue began as a group of friends who rescued, fostered and placed abandoned animals under the guidance of Lavonne Redferrin. We chose to become a 501c3 in 2006. Proverbs has placed over 500 animals annually in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012. We placed 654 pets in 2013, 860 pets in 2014 and over 1,000 pets in 2015 through 2017. In 2018 we placed 813. We foster cats and dogs in homes with occasional boarding if a foster is not available or training is needed for behavioral issues. Our animals are true rescues pulled from high kill shelters or middle Tennessee counties with no animal control department, picked up on country roads or city streets where they are left to fend for themselves. We have held an adoption event at the Petco store in Bellevue, TN every Saturday since 2006. We accept animals rejected by other rescue programs due to their need for high cost veterinary care such has heart worm treatment, orthopedic or neurosurgery.

Impact

Our rescue is comprised of volunteers and fosters who are deeply passionate about saving the lives of pets that have been abused, abandoned, surrendered or scheduled to be euthanized in over-crowded shelters. Through the use of kind, selfless fosters, we provide temporary homes while tirelessly seeking loving, caring forever homes for each of our 'rescue babies.' We provide all needed veterinary care, which is often life-saving. All animals are spayed or neutered as we strive to play a part in reducing the homeless animal population and training is provided to rescued pets with behavioral problems. Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue has hosted a weekly adoption event every Saturday since 2006 in Bellevue, TN. We accepted 1068 animals into our program in 2018, placing 960 dogs and cats into loving adoptive homes. We had several litters born while the pregnant mother was in our care. Our return rate is approximately 3%. Beginning in July of 2013 four dedicated volunteers began feeding six feral dogs in the downtown area. Food and water is supplied to these dogs three times a week. Two females were captured in January 2014 along with their litters. One female dog passed away in 2015 during delivery. Over 40 puppies have been rescued from this street savvy group. These street savvy dogs have evaded capture this entire time Our accomplishments in for the last four years include accepting over 1000 dog/pups and cats/kittens into our rescue and placing 800 to 1000+ animals in adoptive homes. We work with the Sheriff's Department in the local TN Prison for Women to provide puppies that are trained by selected female inmates in their Second Chance program. It has been a great teaching tool for the inmates and an added benefit for our adoptive homes. We continue to operate our sanctuary for pets that cannot be adopted out.

CEO Statement

My passion for animal rescue began during my childhood on a farm in rural TN. Our small town had a local dump where people took their trash weekly. I accompanied by dad in his pickup for this weekly chore. I discovered kittens and puppies from unwanted litters who had been abandoned fend for themselves amid heaps of trash. By wearing baggy clothes, I smuggled several home to our farm until my parents made the connection of the appearance of these stowaways with my trips with my father to the dump. That was my introduction to the problem of pet overpopulation. Time marched on with husband and children yet I still found myself picking up strays at the gas station, on the interstate, down dust covered country roads or in parking lots. To leave one was unthinkable. My passion was a mission, a ministry and a source of exhaustion, ridicule and joy. People say they marvel at what I do, but I marvel at those who can leave a helpless animal without being concerned for its well-being. As with any passion, like minds often find each other. I approached the director of a local shelter explaining that my goal was to lower the euthanasia rate by fostering as many as I could whose time was up. A week later the shelter director asked if I would foster a very pregnant bird dog. The proverbial door had been opened and the marathon to save lives had begun. Through networking, my numbers grew both in animals saved and of foster individuals who followed in my steps. My army was in place! Was it worth it? Of course, God created these pets as gifts but they were given to the wrong hands. Pets we save become loved, spoiled and are faithful friends. There are now thousands of stories with happy endings. The work it takes to do this is incomprehensible to anyone who hasn't done it. It is very similar to having dozens of infants at once. Medical bills, gas for transporting, cost of food, housing, etc. has to be done on a leap of faith, but God has provided. Today's society is fast-paced and overwhelming. Seldom do people find or make time to look beyond their own family needs. If you want to make a difference you can. All shelters need financial support, able bodies to walk pets and foster. Find your niche; teach your children; pick up that stray. Invest yourself! Today I have lost count of the number of pets rescued, but have arranged nearly 5000 placements in the last 5 years. Yes, that is only a drop in the bucket, but for the animals that have been spared, it is a very important drop. Our rescue is called "Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue."

Areas Served

Proverbs 1210 Animal Rescue accepts animals primarily from middle Tennessee counties that have high rates of euthanasia. Most of our rescued animals find new homes in middle TN.

Houston County is one of the many areas we serve. However, they do not have an animal control or shelter. In 2019, we rescued 75 animals from this county. So far, in 2020, we have saved 37 and we expect to far exceed last year's numbers.
