Mission

For over 22 years, Mercy Community Healthcare has provided quality, integrated healthcare for our neighbors throughout Middle Tennessee, regardless of their ability to pay. With locations in Franklin and Lewisburg, Mercy cares for the whole person - body, mind, and spirit.

Care for the Whole Family
Our adult primary care and pediatric physicians provide for the healthcare needs of individuals and families during all phases of life, from infancy to senior years. Whether you need an annual checkup, an immunization, or more comprehensive care for a chronic condition, our providers are here for you.

Mental Health Care
We believe that mental and physical health are equally important components of your overall health. Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. Through our integrated care model, Mercy's licensed psychiatrists, therapists and counselors are able to serve patients' individual needs, while also working hand-in-hand with your primary care physician.

Patient Support Services
We realize that the conditions and places where people live, learn, work, and play affect a wide range of health risks and outcomes. Through our patient support services, we advocate for and empower you as our patient by connecting you with community resources, case management, specialist referrals, transportation, and help with other basic needs.

Our Mission
Mercy Community Healthcare exists to reflect the love and compassion of Jesus Christ by providing excellent healthcare to ALL and support to their families.

Background

Mercy Community Healthcare began in 1999, after Dr. Tim Henschel completed his pediatric residency at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital. Dr. Henschel felt called to provide pediatric care to children in Williamson County who could not conveniently access care because of their lack of insurance or Tenncare (Medicaid) coverage.

Feeling this burden, he began meeting with local pastors and community leaders to explore the possibility of establishing a clinic where children in the city of Franklin and throughout Williamson County could receive care. After several months of discussion, Mercy's mission - To reflect the love and compassion of Jesus Christ by providing excellent healthcare to ALL and support to their families - became a reality and Mercy Health Services, dba Mercy Children's Clinic, was created out of the belief that local businesses, churches, and individuals, and not solely the government, should help shoulder the burden for providing care for children.

CEO Statement

Mercy Health Services is an organization which has grown tremendously since opening its doors in 1999. We have added new physicians, expanded mental health services, and seen our patient base continue to grow. Despite this growth, the most unique aspect of Mercy has not changed - the compassionate, excellent care practitioners and staff member give every patient and family. As a faith-based organization, we view our patients as uniquely created by God, and therefore treat each individual with love, compassion, and respect. This is what truly sets Mercy apart. This is played out daily among our staff. I am reminded of a family who first came to Mercy years ago. The father had recently lost his job and was trying to start his own business. As a result, his children became enrolled on TennCare for the first time in their lives. He didn't know where to take his children, so he called the TennCare help line and was referred to us. He assumed that we were just another indigent health clinic, and he had all the stereotypes associated with that assumption. Reluctantly, he brought his children to our office. To his surprise not only did he find a facility that was state-of-the-art but more importantly to him, it was faith-based. He began to cry when he read our mission statement on the wall in our waiting room. One of my staff saw him, patted him on the hand and told him it was going to be ok, that he was in the right place. Our commitment to being faith-based is very important to him. He has become one of our most vocal advocates. Despite having the opportunity to take his children elsewhere, he refuses to do so because as he's told me, that between the compassionate care and the quality of care, he couldn't imagine taking his kids anywhere else. Caring for children and their families like this is what makes us truly unique. Our philosophy of "healthcare and heartcare" is a distinguishing trait our ministry offers to the children and families who call Mercy home. Many individuals are finding their way to Mercy - many haven't seen a doctor in over a decade and are quite ill. We have seen more uninsured adults in the last year than any of the previous three combined.

Board Chair Statement

Mercy is an incredible ministry that strives to represent Christ by providing healthcare to ALL that might not other wise have access to quality medical care. Currently, the clinic provides services to more than 13,000 individuals from 30+ different counties in the Middle Tennessee area. As a quality, loving and caring health center, we strive to provide the highest quality medical care available, but the ultimate goal is to know every individual by name and to spend quality time listening to the their "heart." With the financial constraints placed on the medical profession through reduced insurance reimbursements and families that are unable to obtain medical coverage at all, we are struggling to meet this goal that is essential in treating the whole person not just their specific malady. It is only through the support from our community that we will be able to continue to provide this vital service and ministry to families in Middle Tennessee.
