Mission

Classical Guitar Nashville seeks to serve its community by bringing it into contact with world-class artistry, presenting educational opportunities for its aspiring guitarists, and developing outreach programs that cultivate appreciation for and understanding of great music in our city's youth.

Background

Classical Guitar Nashville was formed in the summer of 2015. From the outset, its goal has been to advance Guitar Artistry, Outreach and Education in the Greater Nashville community. CGN has made substantial contributions in each of these areas. By sponsoring the Virtuoso Classical Guitar Series, providing master classes for aspiring guitarists and bringing outreach performances into area schools and Senior Residence Centers, CGN has laid the foundation for future program development in each area.

Impact

NOTABLE ACCOMPLISHMENTS FROM CGN'S PREVIOUS YEAR: - we were happy to present our first complete season of live performances since the onset of the pandemic. The first two of these concerts took place in Fall 2022. They featured world-renowned artists SoloDuo (Matteo Mela and Lorenzo Micheli, Italy) and Marc Teicholz (San Francisco). Our Spring 2023 concerts featured another pair of great musicians, Dragos Ilie (Romania) and Randall Avers (USA/Norway). All of these concerts took place in our excellent new venue, Saint David's Episcopal Church in West Meade. The Community Foundation's support has continued to play a vital role in the Series' success. - two of our artists presented masterclasses. These classes serve a wide variety of students including children, aficionados and guitar majors from area universities. - several students presented outreach performances in the Metropolitan Nashville Public School system and Senior Living Centers in Davidson and Williamson counties. GOALS FOR THE CURRENT YEAR: - continue to present Virtuoso Series concerts in our new venue, Saint David's Episcopal Church in West Meade. - organize master classes with the Fall 2023-Spring 2024 Virtuoso Series artists. - continue outreach events at area schools and senior living centers.

Needs

Build financial support and diversify funding for the Virtuoso Classical Guitar Series. The artist fees for a four-concert season range from $10,00-$15,000. Hotel accommodations and meals/entertainment cost an additional $3,000-$4,000. Programs and promotional activities will cost another $2,000. 2. Develop a scholarship fund for master class participants. A four-class season can range from $1,500-$3,000. 3. Expand Board, apply for additional grants, increase membership, sponsors and advertisers. 4. Retain volunteers (or, if budget permits, hire an arts administrator) to coordinate outreach appearances by CGN performers, improve social media presence and aid in concert and festival logistics.

Board Chair Statement

Classical Guitar Nashville has enjoyed notable success this year as a result of the efforts of a highly effective Board of Directors. The organization has made significant strides toward its goal of furthering Guitar Artistry, Outreach and Education in the community. We are very excited to see the Virtuoso Classical Guitar Series move back to live performances in our new home at Saint David's Episcopal Church in West Meade. Additionally, the CGN looks forward to serving the community by organizing master classes with Virtuoso Series artists at Vanderbilt's Blair School of Music, and initiating outreach performances in Nashville Metropolitan Public Schools and in Senior Residence Centers. Looking to the future, we hope to make great strides in developing and sustaining programs in all three areas. In the coming year we plan to organize more community outreach events. We are taking the lead in building audience awareness and financial support for the Virtuoso Series, and we hope to make our existing master class series with Virtuoso artists free to area guitarists. To make this vision a reality, we must make significant strides in fund raising. We plan to expand our Board, apply for additional grants, increase membership and sponsorship, and carry out fundraising activities in order to build the financial support necessary to realize our goals. I am very excited to be a part of this project, and I look forward to contributing to the cultural life of the community in the coming year.
