Description
Penuel Ridge offers worship space for groups or individuals in a unique straw-bale chapel. We call it The Well because it's round and cool, and because water is a symbol for the nurturing of the human spirit as well as the natural world. (It's a wonderful place to sing!) Penuel Ridge is a special place to which a person or small group can withdraw for rest, respite, and renewal.

Description
Penuel Ridge is committed to being good stewards of the land. Endowed with the care of 135 acres, we engage in sustainable practices that do not harm the land, water, flora, or fauna. Only 5 of the 135 acres are developed and those are done so in keeping with the rural nature of our surroundings. We follow the National Parks model in the the care of our forest and do not harvest timber. Throughought the year, volunteers attend to the seasonal maintenance of the land and gardens without use of chemicals or pesticides, attentive to using native flowers, shrubs and trees. We have an aggressive year-round program for the eradication of invasive exotic plants, shrubs and trees that present a threat to our native Tennessee plants, shrubs, and trees.

Description
The need for safe space to be alone, as well as in community is clear if one talks to a homeless person. Penuel Ridge, through collaboration with The Living Room, provides three (3) unique programs to connect homeless persons with the open, sacred and safe space at Penuel Ridge. Programs include: Monthly Guided Day Retreats for up to 15 homeless men and women, Bi-monthly Guided Work Dignity Retreats for up to 6 homeless men and women, and Semi-Annual Leadership Training for agencies who work directly with the homeless. In 2019, Penuel Ridge launched a new program as an offshoot of the Work Dignity Program. Building You-niversity provides comprehensive training in the building and construction trade to homeless and formerly homeless women and men. Upon successful completion of the training program, participants are assisted with resume building, job search, job placement, and transitional housing (if needed.)

CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments

The greatest challenge facing Retreat Centers across the nation is ensuring that the practice of retreat remains in the public consciousness. In today's techno-dependent world, the idea of time away from work, family, community, and social media for personal retreat has become foreign. Additionally, natural attrition is occurring in the ranks of those who retreat regularly as this population ages. Now in its 39th year of providing peaceful sacred space for rest, reflection, and renewal, Penuel Ridge is an oasis from the bitter, divisive, violent atmosphere that now permeates this nation. More than ever, people need and crave a quiet, still place where they listen for their own voice.
