Description
PFA's goal is to prevent as many unwanted litters of kittens and puppies as possible. In an effort to do this, PFA targets all pet owners with insufficient financial capacity to cover surgery costs.

Applicants come through referrals from veterinarians, animal control staff, prior recipients of PFA services, other humane organizations, our social media pages, the PFA website, and other promotional efforts. The spay/neuter hotline number (615-794-8925) is staffed by PFA volunteers. A volunteer screens the pet owner to ascertain level of need. Need is defined by the amount of financial resources available relative to the household circumstances.Extraordinary circumstances like unexpected medical expenses or sudden loss of employment can also create the need for assistance.

PFA certificates are issued to a veterinarian clinic on behalf of the pet owner to assist with the cost of routine spay or neuter

CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments

One of our biggest challenges is to educate the need for spay/neuter. No one denies there is a pet overpopulation problem in the Middle TN, but we find many people don't think about how to get to the root of the problem.

We acknowledge how important the work of animal rescue group is, but even they will agree that there will never be enough homes for all the dogs/cats that are born.

For every one human born, there are 15 dogs and 45 cats born. It is mathematically impossible for all the dogs and cats being born at this rate to have a home.

Our mission is to prevent them from being born in the first place. We need MONEY to continue to financially assist pet owners in need for spay/neuter surgery.

In 2021 we financially assisted 5019 spay/neuter surgeries in Middle & West TN. We are all volunteers. Over 95% of our money spent goes to spay/neuter veterinary bills. We are very proud of our accomplishment, but we need MONEY to continue with our work preventing more dogs/cats from being born that are unwanted.
