Description
Senior Ride Wilson Inc (dba Wilson Rides Inc) is an affordable volunteer-based ride service in Wilson County, TN that supplements the limited existing public transportation options in the county and assists older adults in accessing transportation. Wilson Rides Inc launched as a new nonprofit in April of 2020. Rides are provided to members of Wilson Rides age 55+ who live in Wilson County and no longer drive, seldom drive, or cannot drive at the moment. Riders must be able to transfer safely in/out of a vehicle with limited assistance. Fully vetted and trained volunteer drivers use their personal vehicles to provide rides to medical appointments, grocery stores, pharmacies, senior centers and other places, offering door-through-door support as needed. Wilson Rides Inc launched services in May of 2021 in Mount Juliet and expanded to all of Wilson County including Lebanon, Watertown, Norene and parts of Old Hickory as well as the small places in between.

CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments

As a start-up, non profit organization that was late getting started due to the pandemic and the issues it has presented to our beginning, we need the consistent giving of funds over the next 3 years in order to give our start up the best chance of survival. As you know, cities are often judged by certain benchmarks that make their communities liveable with transportation being one of those benchmarks and the livability for seniors in their communities as another. Transportation for seniors in Wilson County, Tennessee continues to rank as a top need for seniors and Wilson Rides hopes to change the face of aging with services that reduce isolation and support the active lifestyles of our older adults. The pandemic and other natural disasters we have experienced as a community definitely shined a very bright light on Wilson County's senior transportation and services NEEDS!

With our cities and county growing exponentially, these needs will become more evident and I, as the Executive Director, would like to focus on growth and enhanced services as we work towards creating a well put together non profit organization from the start. Fundraising and grant writing for nonprofits usually involve requesting money for very specific line items many of which do not include the overall program expenses. Having program expenses covered will allow me to focus on building and enhancing the program rather than focusing on where the next dollar will come. As in coaching in sports and in building a new program, we really have three years to make it or break it. It would be extremely beneficial to our organization, our seniors and community if we could be given a lift over the next 3 years to ensure our non profit's success.

We will continue to move forward and look forward to serving the seniors of Wilson County!
