Description
Bilingual individuals have a clear advantage in our interconnected global society, and our bilingual dual language school model will be a valuable addition to our local school system. As a dual-language K-8 school our students will develop fluency and biliteracy in English and Spanish during the critical early years when the brain has the greatest plasticity and potential for acquiring language. In addition to the obvious linguistic and cultural benefits of bilingualism, through early language study our students will develop advantageous traits including cognitive flexibility, enhanced listening skills and memory, and greater creativity and divergent thinking in complex problem solving.

Purposeful multidisciplinary projects inspired by challenges in our school, local, and global communities will form the foundation of standards-based learning activities in all grades. Description
Children benefit from learning in schools that reflect the diversity of their communities and provide opportunities for diverse perspectives and cultures to shape their understanding of the world. While schools across the country have grown increasingly segregated due to segregated housing patterns, as a diverse-by-design school we are committed to cultivating a learning community that is racially, socioeconomically, culturally, and linguistically diverse through strategic location of our school and intentional recruitment of students and faculty. External efforts to attract a diverse community of students, families, and faculty will necessitate concentrated internal integration efforts to facilitate understanding and appreciation across lines of difference. We will provide opportunities for families to engage in cross-cultural interactions and learn from each other as we work together to make our school and greater Nashville a welcoming community for all.
