Description
The Fund strives to identify specific needs of families with critically or chronically ill children. The hospital staff will refer a family to the FSF who have shown financial or emotional need. Once the family is referred to the Fund, our staff tries to meet that need whether it be financially, emotionally, or physically. A few examples include overing the cost of a phone or electricity bill, mortgage/rent coverage, Christmas gifts, gas cards for the long drive to and from the hospital, meal vouchers for the hospital cafeteria, purchase of cribs, car seats, and other necessities for the child. We look for ways to support them in the hospital or at home, based on their unique situation. We also support families through our many hospital programs. Some of those programs include NICU Development Center, PICU Development Center, Snack Bags, Sibling Support, Christmas support, Unit Appreciation, Bereavement support, Care Bags, Celebration Bags, Comfort Cart, Gas cards and Meal Vouchers.

Long-term Success
The Forrest Spence Fund Individual Needs Program provides each family with unique assistance as determined through consultation with hospital staff, social work, and through a mentoring relationship with our Executive Director. Long term achievements vary due to the wide array of services provided in this program. Since the Forrest Spence Fund's existence, we delivered over 98,422 forms of support to pediatric patients and their families. With certainty, 100% of families helped experience a lifted burden through the assistance of the Fund. This allows the family to focus more on their child and participate more fully in Family Centered Patient Care. As the Fund expands, the reach of our help will touch more families in the Mid-South.

Long-term Success
Long term success of the Hospital Support Program for us would be to continue to meet the current needs of the hospitals we work with and then keep expanding the program. Expanding our program would mean providing more resources, and reaching more families. Since 2007 we have assisted with over 27,327 institutional needs.

Description
The illness and loss of a child are some of the most difficult things a parent or a family can experience. One of the goals of the Forrest Spence Fund is to connect families with counseling and support groups. If a family loses a child or has a chronically ill child, we refer them to professional counseling and pay 100% of the cost.

The counselors help families in dealing with the stages of grief, coping with the loss, and the impact of the death on their family. This is such an important step in healing for the families in our community.

Long-term Success
With the loss of a child comes engulfing grief. Long term success of our Counseling Program would look like expanding our reach and increasing our budget in the coming years. We know that community impact occurs as families receive support to learn to cope with grief and continue to live in their "new normal" while healing. We have assisted over 406 families with counseling.
