Mission

We provide a continuum of evidence-based substance abuse and mental health services for women in an environment of faith and healing to restore hope and a lifetime of recovery.

The Next Door is one-of-a-kind in its approach to walking alongside women struggling with addiction. We are the only organization in the Southeast providing a full continuum of affordable, gender-specific treatment for women in a faith-based environment and that offers priority in admissions to pregnant women. The Next Door uses a treatment model that integrates 12-step programming, faith, and evidence-based practices to address the needs of the whole woman - mind, body, and spirit.

Background

The Next Door, Inc., was founded in 2002 when the Wild Praying Women from a local church in Nashville desired to be of service to the community. After conducting a community needs survey, the founders formed a non-profit organization to serve women in need and began working with women coming from incarceration. Over the years, through working with this population of women, the organization's focus expanded to address the interrelated cycles of addiction and incarceration. Today, The Next Door offers a nationally-recognized continuum of treatment services for substance abuse and a one-of-a-kind re-entry facility in Chattanooga, TN.

Impact

The Next Door is one-of-a-kind in its approach to walking alongside women struggling with addiction. We are the only organization in the Southeast providing a full continuum of affordable, gender-specific treatment for women in a faith-based environment and that offers priority in admissions to pregnant women. The Next Door uses a treatment model that integrates 12-step programming, faith, and evidence-based practices to address the needs of the whole woman - mind, body, and spirit. In Nashville, our team of medical and clinical professionals provide the following levels of care: Medically Monitored Detoxification, Residential Drug and Alcohol Treatment, Partial-Hospitalization, Intensive Outpatient, Medication-Assisted Treatment, and Aftercare Services. The Next Door's Chattanooga location houses the Correctional Release Center, a unique program that provides re-entry services, in addition to addiction treatment and trauma services, to incarcerated women. In 2022, The Next Door will celebrate their 18th anniversary of empowering women for lifetime recovery. Over these past 18 years, the organization has been blessed to be able to serve over 13,300 women. In 2021 alone, The Next Door served 1,623 women.

Needs

The Next Door's most pressing need continues to be general operating support. We operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our budget is predominantly comprised of staff salaries because our services are dependent upon highly-qualified staff: therapists, case managers, medical providers, nurses, peer recovery specialists, etc. When a woman comes in for treatment, it is at no cost to her. We offer spots for women with no insurance - with priority admission to pregnant women. The Next Door absorbs any cost for treatment not covered by traditional insurance, including when a woman has no insurance.

Outside of general funds, needs include supplies to fill welcome bags for each woman (reusable tote bag, reusable water bottle, notebook, wash cloth and towel, feminine products, shampoo, soap), pillows, and bath towels. Volunteers are always welcome!

CEO Statement

My name is Rachel Morris. I began my career working with the YWCA inside the Tennessee Prison for Women. It was during this role that I learned about The Next Door and began referring women from the prison to TND's program. In 2007, I became the 10th employee on The Next Door's payroll, as the Operations Assistant. Over the next 15 years, I have worked in a variety of roles learning and supporting the work and mission of The Next Door. My history with this organization has opened my eyes to the true meaning of resiliency and strength. The women we serve are the definition of these two words.

The Next Door is one-of-a kind in its approach to serving women struggling with addiction. We are the only organization in the Southeast that provides a full-continuum of affordable, gender-specific care in a faith-based setting with priority admissions to pregnant women. When a new client walks through our doors they are walking into a therapeutic environment of experienced clinical and medical staff that will serve them with compassion.

I'm excited to be leading this incredible organization as we empower women for lifetime recovery.

Board Chair Statement

The need for the services offered by The Next Door is greater than when we opened our doors in 2004. Addiction is devastating our communities. While coverage of the opioid crisis has made the need more visible, addiction to methamphetamines, cocaine, alcohol, and other substances is just as destructive. The Next Door has become a healthcare center designed for women to receive word class services at an incredibly affordable price. Knowing that women are getting the help they need, and that because of this their lives, and their families' lives, are forever changed, drives the organization's Board of Directors. Our Board is composed of individuals who are engaged and committed to providing excellent leadership to forward the organization's mission. We are fortunate to serve and support and amazingly gifted and passionate team who dedicate themselves to the clients who come to The Next Door in crisis. I've had the privilege of serving The Next Door for the past 8 years as a board member and now as Chair. and I am so thankful to see how God has provided every step of the way. The growth and success we have seen is the direct result of individual and community prayers. We have great expectations for the future.
