Mission
Our mission is to provide seniors with affordable, high-quality assisted living in a compassionate, community-centered environment. We believe every individual deserves the dignity of aging in a supportive and enriching setting. As a nonprofit, DJJALC is dedicated to meeting the growing need for affordable senior care, ensuring our residents enjoy personalized care, meaningful connections, and the highest quality of life. Through collaborative partnerships and community support, we bridge the gap in access to essential services, fostering security, wellness, and friendship for all seniors who call DJJALC home.
Background
Founded in 2004 by the Schrader Lane Church of Christ, The David Jones, Jr. Assisted Living Center, Inc. (DJJALC) was established in response to the critical need for affordable, high-quality senior care in Nashville. As the demand for assisted living surges, driven by a growing senior population and limited facility availability, DJJALC has remained one of the few nonprofit options providing accessible, compassionate care at significantly reduced rates compared to Nashville's average assisted living costs.
Our 34-bed center offers a safe and welcoming environment with a commitment to personalized care and close resident-staff relationships. We maintain a low resident-to-staff ratio, empowering our team of 26 dedicated caregivers with an average tenure of eight years to support the well-being and independence of each resident. With access to private and semi-private rooms, communal spaces, and outdoor areas, our residents find comfort, vibrant social engagement, wellness-focused amenities, and a strong sense of community.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, DJJALC reported only five cases and zero deaths, a testament to our rigorous health protocols and dedicated staff. Located near hospitals, medical clinics, and Tennessee State University, DJJALC offers comprehensive support for aging in place while fostering meaningful partnerships with organizations like Tennessee State University and Vanderbilt University.
Despite the median monthly cost of assisted living in Nashville reaching $5,000, DJJALC provides a more accessible rate of $3,100, making our center a viable choice for seniors and their families who seek a quality, affordable alternative to costly, for-profit facilities. By supporting DJJALC, donors can play a critical role in helping seniors age with dignity, independence, and the essential care they deserve.
Impact
The David Jones, Jr. Assisted Living Center, Inc. (DJJALC) provides an essential lifeline for Nashville's seniors, offering affordable, high-quality assisted living that enhances their quality of life, promotes independence, and ensures peace of mind. Serving seniors who might otherwise face financial hardship, inadequate care, or the isolation of living alone, DJJALC enables residents to age with dignity in a community-centered environment. By offering monthly rates nearly 40% below Nashville's median assisted living cost, we make quality senior care accessible to more families, reducing the burden of financial insecurity and preventing seniors from being forced into higher-cost or restrictive facilities.
Our commitment to personalized care in a close-knit community fosters deep connections among residents and staff. Our low resident-to-staff ratio ensures attention to each resident's physical, emotional, and social needs. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, DJJALC's rigorous health protocols protected our residents, with only five reported cases and zero fatalities, highlighting our dedication to their safety and well-being.
Each year, DJJALC positively impacts dozens of seniors and their families, providing the support and resources needed for seniors to live comfortably and respectfully. Our partnerships with local institutions like Tennessee State University and Vanderbilt University enrich the lives of our residents and solidify our role as a trusted and compassionate care provider within Nashville's community. By contributing to DJJALC, supporters directly improve the lives of seniors, allowing them to enjoy a fulfilling, wellness-focused lifestyle while aging in a vibrant community.
Needs
In 2025, DJJALC is focusing on four essential needs that will enhance our facility's services and address emerging demands among our aging residents:
Veterans Program: Nashville's veteran population faces unique challenges, often with financial hardship, health issues, and a need for specialized support. To better serve this community, DJJALC seeks funding to establish a Veterans Program, providing targeted support, financial assistance for low-income vets, and dedicated resources to veterans aged 62 and older.
Sprinkler System Upgrades: Safety remains a top priority at DJJALC, and an updated comprehensive sprinkler system is essential to meet updated fire safety codes and protect our residents from potential hazards.
Upgraded Security System: To foster a secure and worry-free environment, DJJALC needs to modernize the security system with improved cameras, access controls, and emergency response capabilities.
Kitchen Upgrades: Nutrition and dining are central to our residents' well-being, as meals fulfill dietary needs and serve as valuable social engagement opportunities. Funding for kitchen upgrades will enhance food quality and improve meal preparation efficiency.
Board Chair Statement
As we look ahead to 2025, we remain steadfast in our commitment to providing Nashville's seniors with a safe, compassionate, and affordable place to call home. The David Jones, Jr. Assisted Living Center, Inc. was founded to serve as a sanctuary for seniors in need, offering high-quality care without the high costs that often place assisted living out of reach for so many. Thanks to our staff's ongoing dedication, community partners' support, and donors' generosity, we continue to fulfill that mission year after year.
Our priorities for 2025 reflect our values and our residents' pressing needs. With the establishment of a Low-Income Veterans Program, we seek to honor and support those who have served our country, providing affordable care tailored to their unique needs. Upgrading our facilities, from installing a modern sprinkler and security system to vital kitchen enhancements, will ensure that our seniors live in an environment that is safe and designed to enrich their daily lives.
At DJJALC, we believe that every senior deserves to age with dignity, connection, and the confidence that comes with knowing they are in a caring, secure community. These initiatives are essential to fulfilling that vision. With the support of our generous donors and stakeholders, we can continue to be a pillar of affordable, compassionate care in Nashville. On behalf of the Board, I invite you to join us in these efforts, knowing that together, we can make a profound difference in the lives of our city's seniors.
