Description
We offer counseling to trauma survivors, including domestic and sexual violence survivors who are referred from local shelters, lawyers, churches etc. With each survivor, therapy is focused on empowerment, self-efficacy, safety planning, goal setting, self-discovery, processing loss, and creating boundaries. Through this program the survivor is able to decrease symptoms of PTSD, is educated about power and control, the cycle of violence and about what constitutes health in relationships. One in three women report being abused by a partner at some point in their lives, so the need for a confidential and affordable resource for women to begin their healing journey is apparent. TRC meets this need. Success is measured by the number of women who complete physical and emotional safety plans with their counselor and by the number of women who make a self-report of having identified their resources and options, and feel empowered having been able to do so. When using EMDR in trauma therapy success is measured by a SUD of 0, a VOC of 7, and a clear body-scan.
