CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments

The programs of the Center are very diverse, but then so is the populace we serve. Naturally, the nutrition program is very important with bringing direct meals to seniors at a price they can afford ($5.00). This allows at least one well-balanced meal per day. What is not mentioned is that we serve a breakfast at no charge and there are free components of each lunch meal (soup, salad, dessert), and we supply day-old bread supplied by local stores free of charge. Physical fitness classes help keep the mind active and the body fit. The Health Screenings allow the senior to receive advice and knowledge of problems that may be arising. Naturally with our aging community there comes a time when someone needs that little help to stay in the home, but shouldn't be left alone while younger members of the family work. This is where the Senior Circle of Friends Adult Day Center comes in. Rather than commit a senior to an institution when they do not necessarily need that much care, the senior can be brought to the ADC daily while family members work, and go home with them during the evening. This is less of a strain on the family, the cared for senior, and society in general since it is a lot less costly providing for a senior at home/ADC than in a nursing home. And those who are homebound by themselves, depression and hypochondria are major problems, but the Center staff calls daily, safety and social reassurance is established. This does not even touch upon the social programming which is a major part of any Senior Center. Seniors want to have time and opportunity to enjoy life with friends, and that is a big part of their coming to the Center. At the Center they can be themselves, have fun, improve health, give quality volunteer time, and enjoy group jigsaw puzzles, board games and a variety of daily card games. On top of all that the Center presents an annual 50+ Creativity Festival which highlights any form of performing arts, visual arts, crafts, photos and painting created by anyone over the age of 50.
