CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments
2021 was a challenging year to start a new nonprofit that was benefiting 6 states. The Mid South Liver Alliance was formed on March 10, 2021. In starting out we had 3 board members initially and started vamping up our Medical Advisory Board. Since we were concentrating more on Chronic Liver Disease, it made sense for us to reach out to all the transplant centers in our 6 states. There are a total of 11 transplant centers that work with Chronic Liver Disease in the midsouth states, and we have 8 of them represented on our Medical Advisory Board. The Medical Advisory Board is important in our building process as they are the ones that can help us determine the programs that are needed to help educate others on Liver Disease. In 2021, we did our first Medical Program on Liver Cancer and had a successful campaign. We had a Hepatologist from VUMC, a radiologist from University of Kentucky and a Transplant Surgeon from University of Birmingham discusses Liver Cancer and various treatment options. To view the program just go to: https://youtu.be/hAZRnfMEI4Y This program helped us to raise over $8500 for the Mid South Liver Alliance and showed the collaboration efforts between transplant centers to educate medical professionals on Liver Cancer. We had 25 in attendance for the live webinar and have had over 20 views from our website. With the pandemic running rapid when we started the Mid South Liver Alliance it was hard to concentrate on patients and get programs together for them. We are hoping that by the end of 2022 we will be able to do a couple of programs for patients that will be live not online, but with COVID we need to be careful as many of our patients have major autoimmune issues. In 2022, as we build up our financials, we are hoping to have Teresa travel to some of the states and help build a network of contacts to help us increase our Board membership as well as build patient networks for dealing with education and advocacy needs. 2022 will be a good year to start the growth process. We are working with the transplant centers and getting their support throughout the mid-south region. We are also working with Global Liver Institute with their Liver Action Network (LAN) to better synchronize engagement across the liver advocacy community, and to meet the needs of rapidly growing cadre of liver health advocates. The LAN operates as a first of its kind network that provides community member organizations a central structure for the formulation of collective health policy and programmatic solutions. We are proud to be a part of LAN and work with GLI on important legislation like The Liver Act and The NASH Act at the federal level. I have participated in many calls with legislators on the importance of these bills and we hope to see them pass in the next 2 years. GLI also worked with us as we started by supporting us with an operations grant that helped us as we started in March 2021. We are also looking to collaborate with others on important issues such as NAFLD/NASH and Hepatitis C. We were able to have $5000 left in the coffers at the end of 2021 and we are hoping to double our efforts in 2022. We hope you will support the Mid South Liver Alliance and we look forward to talking with you about liver disease. Please feel free to visit our website and donate today. Foundation Staff Comments
This organization filed a Form 990N with the IRS, which does not provide specific financial information. Most small tax-exempt organizations whose annual gross receipts are normally $50,000 or less are required to electronically submit Form 990N, also known as an e-Postcard, unless they choose to file a complete Form 990 or Form 990EZ instead.
